11-15 BACAB 16-20 ACABC
录音材料:
Text 1
M: Would you like to come to my place for a coffee, Emily?
W: Sorry, I can't, John. I've got a meeting at 3:00. So, I have to go to my office now. Another time maybe.
Text 2
M: It's July 10th already. I thought Jim was supposed to come back yesterday. Where is he?
W: Oh, he decided to delay his return date. He'll be back the day after tomorrow.
Text 3
W: The fence is very attractive.
M: Yes, and it's useful. It really cuts down on the number of people cutting across my garden. Otherwise, the grass is always in a mess.
W: Oh, I thought you just wanted to decorate your garden.
Text 4
M: It's a surprise to see you in this class of children's literature. Are you also majoring in elementary education?
W: No, I'm not. But as a psychology major, I can use this to fulfill the requirement in developmental psychology.
Text 5
M: Can I book a twin room for tomorrow?
W: I'm sorry, but we are fully booked.
M: Well, how about the fifth?
W: That's fine, but we have only a double room. Is that OK?
M: Yes, please reserve it for me.
Text 6
W: What are you going to do during school break?
M: I hope to go camping with Peter, maybe to the Grand Canyon. How about you?
W: I plan to drive to Los Angeles. I have a friend there. Say, would you come along if I paid for the gas and everything? You could go camping some other time.
M: I'm sorry, but I really want to see the Grand Canyon. Besides, it was Peter's idea. He lent me the money for my new backpack.
Text 7
W: I know I'm going to bite the dust going down the hill. I had a brush with death on the chair lift. This is going to be so embarrassing.
M: Don't worry. Everyone knows you're getting your feet wet. I'll show you how. I bet you'll get the hang of this within 5 minutes.
W: This is only your second time skiing. This is definitely a case of the blind leading the blind.
M: Relax, I can hold my own. Now point your skis toward the bottom of the hill. Easy does it.
W: I don't think I can get up enough nerve to do this.
M: Here, I'll just give you a little push.
W: No!
(Later at the bottom of the hill)
M: There, now wasn't that fun? As soon as you get your second wind, we'll try it again.
W: Don't hold your breath.
Text 8
M: Well, Karen, let me just say that we are excited to have you on our team. And we would like to send you to a conference that is taking place in Arica, Chile. You said you've never been to Chile.
W: No, I haven't.
M: Well, Arica is a very beautiful city. It's in the north, in the desert, but they say that it's like springtime all year round there.
W: Sounds wonderful. What's the conference?
M: The 9th International Conference for English teachers. There will be representatives from most major universities, as well as a number of other smaller schools and institutes. And our understanding is that Chile is a ripe market. They have good availability of computers, but not really so much software over there.
W: So, I'd be set up there for selling software.
M: Oh yeah.
W: Will I have to speak Spanish?
M: At the conference? I can't imagine. It's a conference for English teachers after all.
W: Yeah, that's good.
Text 9
W: Good afternoon, everyone. I'm Julia. Welcome to Happy Tour. This is a program for travel lovers. Today we're talking about parks. Now, Let's welcome the first listener. Hello.
M: Hi, I'm Jason White, and I am a tour guide.
W: OK, what park do you want to talk about today?
M: Harbor Park. It was built on land given to the city by Captain Jones. Captain Jones designed the park himself. Exactly in the center of the park is a statue of Captain Jones.
W: Are there any other sights?
M: After watching the statue, you can follow the path that goes through the woods. It will lead you to a lovely garden, in the middle of which is a fountain. If you still feel like walking, continue on to the far end of the garden. There, you'll find a set of wooden stairs, which will take you down to the harbor. You might enjoy the view of the boats carrying horses from there.
W: OK, thank you for your sharing, Jason.
Text 10
M: OK, first of all, let me show you around the library. Now, we're here at the main entrance. You can see the reception where you bring back and take out books. And also we can order books and answer your questions there. Next to the reception, where you can see those old desks, is where we keep the magazines, so you can sit down and read there. Then at the back of the library, you can see the section for old books. OK, then in the corner, next to the reference section, is where we thought it was quietest. And away from the phones and printers and things, so we've put the study desks there. They all have internet access, if you need it for your notebook computer.
Some of you are eager to know about the borrowing and the rules. Well, over the last two months, we've been introducing a new system for this, and you can now take books out for six weeks. That's generally enough for most people. We usually get books back within 30 days. Of course, you may decide to renew the period. You used to have to come in to renew the books. Because we don't like doing it over the phone, as there's no record of it. But now you can do all that through email. If you do forget to renew, then we'll make a charge, I'm afraid.
