The Solar School Project

When Greenfield Middle School's classrooms became too hot last summer, students didn't just talk about the problem—they acted. Their science project on clean energy grew into a whole-school green project after finding out air conditioning used 60% of the school's electricity.

The team studied how other schools used solar power and counted how much money could be saved. Though some teachers worried about class interruptions and leaders doubted if students could manage such a project, the team held a school fair to show their work: Science Club's power models, Art Class's eco-posters, and Debate Team's success stories from other countries.

After putting up the solar panels, the project became part of lessons. The principal said students learned how energy use affects nature, how to talk to different people about ideas, and how to keep trying when things go wrong.

Now, student guides say: "We didn't just learn about helping the Earth—we did it. This is how real change starts."

Pandas have been eating bamboo for six million years, even though they have digestive systems fit for a meat-based diet. Then why do they love bamboo so much? Chinese scientists think they may have recently found an answer.

In a new study, scientists took a look at the blood of seven pandas. They found that the pandas take small pieces of genetic material from the bamboo into their blood. This genetic material can change genetic information in the pandas’ bodies, leading to changes in how they act and grow. It also influences their sense of smell, taste and feelings of joy. This plays an important part in their bamboo-eating habits.

The scientists believe that by the time a baby panda grows up, it will have the ability to pick the freshest and most nutritious bamboo. This lets them get used to a plant-based diet. Scientists hope the findings can help people understand more about how genetic materials in plants influence animals.

19.Where did the scientists find the answer to pandas’ love for bamboo?

A. In their digestive systemsB. In their eating habits

C. In their bloodD. In their living environment

20. What does the underlined word “this” refer to in Paragraph 3?

This year marks the 130th anniversary of Xu Beihong’s birth. Born in 1895 in Jiangsu province, Xu was one of the “fathers of modern Chinese art”. Xu started learning Chinese painting at age 9. After moving into her new flat, Miss Li, a designer living in Shanghai, set up an online chat group and started sending invitations to all of her neighbors. She wanted to buy some secondhand things, and an online chat group could help her.

In the past, people thought that only the poor bought secondhand items. People even had a sense of shame when they couldn't afford new things. As time goes by, the ways of living have changed a lot. Today, Chinese people, especially the young like Miss Li, think it's fashionable to choose secondhand goods. People aged under 35 are the major users of secondhand online platforms. In Miss Li's online chat group, people mainly trade unused gifts, furniture and so on.

There are some reasons why more and more people choose to buy secondhand goods. First, Chinese customers’ views of consumption are changing. They care more about the actual value of the thing instead of whether it is new. Second, online platforms make the trade possible. People can sell the useless things conveniently and buy what they need cheaply. Third, buying secondhand things is also good for the environment. It can help reduce the waste of resources.

41. Why did Miss Li set up an online chat group?

42.When did people have a sense of shame in the past?

参考范文

The power of volunteering

Volunteering is really meaningful, and I've been lucky to take part in some volunteer work. I once volunteered at a community library last summer holiday. I helped the librarian sort out books and guided little kids to find their favorite storybooks.

I choose to be a volunteer for three main reasons. First, it lets me give a hand to people in need and makes me feel useful. Second, I can make more friends with the same kind of heart during volunteer work. What's more, it helps me learn new skills like communication and teamwork, which are very useful in my life.

Volunteering brings warmth to the world. I will keep doing volunteer work and call on more friends to join me.
