Last summer, I volunteered at a small woodworking studio in the old part of our city. It was there that I met Mr. Chen, a 58-year-old master craftsman whose hands told stories of decades working with wood. While his workshop was filled with traditional tools, what he created was anything but conventional wooden furniture that perfectly blended classic craftsmanship with contemporary design. What struck me most was Mr. Chen’s unique perspective on what he called “new-era craftsmanship”. Though he learned woodworking from his father as a teenager, he never confined himself to old methods. Recognizing the changing preferences of younger customers, he spent evenings teaching himself 3D modeling software and weekends researching sustainable materials like bamboo composites and water-based finishes.

I witnessed his innovative approach firsthand when a young couple asked for a custom bookshelf for their small apartment. They needed something space-efficient, eco-friendly, and easy to take apart for potential moves. Mr. Chen embraced the challenge enthusiastically.

Over the next week, he created multiple digital prototypes, experimented with three different types of wood, and reinvented traditional techniques to create interlocking joints that required no metal fasteners. I often found him working late, his experienced hands carefully testing each component. When I asked why he invested such extraordinary effort into what seemed like a simple project, he paused from his work and smiled. “True craftsmanship isn’t about blindly repeating what our ancestors did,” he explained. “It’s about understanding the essence of tradition while having the courage to adapt it for today’s world.” To illustrate his point, he showed me two bookshelves — one he made twenty years ago, beautiful in its solid construction, and the new prototype, which used thirty percent less material while being equally steady and more functional for modern living.

Through Mr. Chen’s example, I came to understand that new-era craftsmanship represents the perfect marriage of dedication and innovation. It honors the past while embracing the future, proving that excellence comes not from doing one thing forever, but from doing it well with an ever-evolving spirit.

24. Why are traditional tools mentioned in Paragraph 1?

A. To stress Mr. Chen’s source of inspiration.

B. To highlight the wisdom of past generations.

C. To promote the spirit of traditional craftsmanship.

D. To contrast with Mr. Chen’s modern and creative ideas.

25. Why does the author list specific requests from the young couple?

A. To reveal the great skills of today’s craftsmen.

B. To display the shift of traditional craftsmanship.

C. To imply the need for craftsmen to go with the times.

D. To distinguish modern approaches from traditional ones.

26. What does “true craftsmanship” mean in Mr. Chen’s viewpoint?

A. Creating resource-efficient products.B. Persisting through testing and effort.

C. Adapting traditional wisdom for modern use.D. Combining digital and traditional techniques.

27. What does Mr. Chen’s story show?

A. The best of both worlds.B. Two sides of a coin.

C. The value of old methods.D. The limit of newness.

For decades, marine researchers have faced major obstacles in ocean conservation. Remote, dark coastal waters shelter rare marine species, largely inaccessible to human divers. Traditional cameras perform poorly in dim conditions, and costly human surveys cover less than 3 percent of global shallow marine areas yearly. To solve these problems, a modern AI bioacoustics (生物声学的) monitoring system has been developed to boost conservation efficiency.

Jointly created by environmental tech teams and marine reserves, this innovative system adopts low-cost underwater microphones to record complex ocean soundscapes. Equipped with advanced machine learning technology, it is able to identify various marine species according to their unique acoustic (声音的) features automatically. Compared with traditional approaches, it reduces survey costs by 62 percent and expands detectable sea areas by over 18 times. Inspired by dolphins’ echolocation, its bionic algorithm (算法) can block interference from waves and ship engines, accurately recognizing faint and mixed underwater sounds.

In a 12-month field study off Ghana’s western coast, Dr. Lena Marquez’s team placed 46 solar-powered hydrophones (水听器). The AI uncovered three locally extinct fish species, missed by human divers’ annual searches for five years. It also locates hidden seagrass and coral habitats overlooked by humans. Guided by its data, local fishermen adopted seasonal fishing bans, raising young fish populations by 41 percent in eight months.

Nevertheless, the system has two noticeable limitations. It fails to identify silent marine creatures such as shellfish with no acoustic signals. Additionally, its high-precision analysis demands steady internet access and basic digital training, which many remote island regions lack. To overcome these obstacles, researchers are optimizing offline data processing systems and offering free professional training for coastal residents in relevant regions.

This bionic AI technology marks a significant breakthrough in marine ecological protection. Rather than isolating technology from natural ecosystems, it learns and follows natural biological rules to repair damaged ocean habitats. As affordable hydrophones and open-source AI programs gain global popularity, local coastal communities are empowered to guard marine resources effectively, turning abstract ocean protection theories into practical daily action.

28. What is a key advantage of the new AI system?

A. It functions well in dark environment.

B. It can operate without any workers on site.

C. It makes marine surveys much more efficient.

D. It’s able to cover less than half sea area worldwide.

29. What can we learn about the field study in Ghana?

A. It improved adult fish population quickly.

B. It was influenced by local fishing activities.

C. It relied on human divers’ repeated searches.

D. It found some previously unseen local fish species.

30. What is one shortcoming of the bioacoustic system?

A. It cannot work in bright seawater.B. It is unable to detect soundless sea life.

C. It ignores human fishing activities.D. It needs no digital training for users.

31. Which of the following is the best title for the text?

A. AI Technology Empowers Ocean Conservation

B. New Rules for Global Ocean Fishing

C. Hidden Marine Habitats Discovered by Divers

D. Advanced Ways to Improve Internet Service

You walk into a clothing store and spot a leather coat marked $1,800. You immediately label it extremely pricey and move on. Later that day, you find an identical coat on sale for $650, and you instantly think you have found anincredible steal. What you may not realize is that your judgment has been misled by the anchoring bias (锚定偏见).

The anchoring bias was first identified by psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky in their research on intuitive (直觉的) reasoning. It describes the human tendency to rely heavily on the first piece of information we encounter — called an anchor — and evaluate every subsequent detail against that fixed reference point.

Consider bargaining for a second-hand vehicle. If a seller opens with a high asking price, that number becomes your mental anchor. Even if you negotiate the price far lower, you will still view the final deal as a win compared to the original figure, ignoring the car’s true market value. The opposite holds true: A surprisingly low initial offer causes the seller to undervalue their own property. This trap does not only appear in shopping; it influences salary negotiations, exam score judgments, and even predictions about global statistics.

The bias exists because human brains naturally conserve mental energy. Recalculating value requires heavy cognitive effort, so we automatically lean on the first available reference point rather than conducting fully independent analysis. When we are setting plans or making estimates about something, we interpret new information from the reference point of our anchor instead of seeing it objectively. This can affect our judgment and prevent us from updating our plans or predictions as much as we should.

Avoiding the anchoring bias entirely isn’t possible, given its widespread impact and how powerful it is. Like all cognitive biases, the anchoring bias is subconscious, meaning it’s difficult to interrupt. Yet one evidence-based and straightforward strategy to fight against the anchoring bias is to come up with reasons why that anchor is inappropriate for the situation. Meanwhile, considering multiple options is always a good idea to aid in decision-making.

32. What do the underlined words “anincredible steal” in paragraph 1 mean?

A. A real bargain.B. A free item.C. An identical product.D. An unexpected gift.

33. What is the cause of the anchoring bias?

A. Reference point loss.B. Independent analysis.

C. Brain’s energy-saving nature.D. Brain’s heavy burden.

34. What is a good way to deal with the anchoring bias?

A. Ignoring its reasons.B. Weighing various choices.

C. Seeking its impacts.D. Interrupting relevant thoughts.

35. What is the purpose of this article?

A. To show how to bargain wisely.B. To explain a hidden mental trap.

C. To warn against quick decisions.D. To criticize a common phenomenon.

Something annoying about learning: the things that make learning feel productive are usually the things that slow it down. You sit down, you grind through the material, and by the end of the session, you feel like you’ve got it. And then two weeks later — gone. 36

The fix is one of the most well-supported findings in learning science: spaced repetition. Instead of bunching all your practice together in one session, you spread it out over time. In the 1880s, Hermann Ebbinghaus discovered what is now called the forgetting curve (曲线). Without any review, you lose information fast. Roughly half within the first hour. Seventy percent within a day. Ninety percent within a week.

37       Your brain is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do — choosing what to focus on. You encounter an enormous amount of information every day, and your brain has to decide what matters and what doesn’t. If you only see something once and never come back to it, your brain reasonably concludes it’s not that important.       38      When you encounter the same material again, your brain essentially says, “Oh, this keeps coming back. Must be important.” Each time you successfully recall something after a gap, you reset the forgetting curve.

So how long should you wait between sessions? The optimal gap is roughly 10-20% of the time you want to remember the material. A basic progression might look like this: first review 1 day after initial learning, second review 3-5 days later, third review 1-2 weeks later, fourth review 1 month later, and subsequent reviews every few months. 39      You’re not trying to prevent forgetting; you’re trying to practice retrieving after some forgetting has occurred. As long as you get it right, the exact intervals are less critical.

You don’t need to overcomplicate this. Start with something simple and build from there. 40      It’s that you’re willing to do the thing that feels harder in the moment because you understand it produces better results in the long run. That’s true for spacing. Honestly, it’s true for most of learning.

A. Spacing delivers a fairly different signal.

B. That sounds terrible, but this isn’t a design flaw.

C. This isn’t a failure of effort but a failure of strategy.

D. Despite this, the science of the brain tells a different story.

E. The most important thing isn’t the specific strategy you use.

F. Forgetting establishes necessary conditions for stronger re-learning.

G. But here’s what matters more than any specific schedule: the principle.

For Spanish scholar Ana Maria, traditional Chinese poetry is more than literature — it is a bond connecting two distant civilizations through 56      (share) feelings and lasting charm.

Her work, River Echo: Selected Classical Chinese Poems,57      (publish) in 2024 and quickly won several important awards. It collects masterpieces by       58      (literature) masters including Tao Yuanming, Du Fu, Li Bai, and Su Shi, spanning from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) to the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912).

“Translating ancient Chinese poems into modern Spanish was a huge challenge, because Spanish literature is 59      (relative) short-lived, while Chinese poetry has thousands of years of growth, with rich styles and many distinguished poets,” Ana Maria says.       60      (link) different cultures, she carefully keeps the emotion and rhythm of the originals while mixing them with the beauty of Spanish poetry, creating a warm dialogue that bridges cultures. She also adds notes to explain historical events and       61      (poet) lives.

For Ana Maria, translation is not only about words but about passing on thoughts and feelings across languages. In this task, she tries to show the heart of the original work, whether it is a poem 62      a thinker’s ideas. Therefore, when the translation reaches readers, it gains new life,       63      (present) Chinese culture from her special view.

Ana Maria hopes her work will help local people better understand Chinese culture, just as she said — Poetry is 64      a stream that crosses mountains and rivers and flows into       65      heart of a foreign land.

第二节(满分25分)

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My phone buzzed. It was a text from Angus Menzies, my best friend since childhood. Our plan to go canoeing (划独木舟) near our hometown of Ottawa, was a go.

We had similar canoe trips before. Whenever we hung out, we’d drum up some adventure, maybe to prove we could handle adversity. Angus and I were complementary. I can be cautious to the point of timidity, while Angus is quick to take on unknown challenges, often successfully, but sometimes with serious consequences. I felt lucky to have a lifelong friendship, where being myself with him helps me discover who I am and who I could be.

Now Angus and I stood in his garage and packed our gear: paddles, two life jackets, apples and beer. “We’ll only be gone a few hours,” Angus told Robin, his wife. As I had arranged with Cornelia, I would only be gone 24 hours, a mini vacation that seemed impossibly exciting after months close to home helping care for our 2-year-old daughter. We loaded the canoe into the truck. When we pulled in at the launch spot (下水点), the beach was deserted. We pushed off into the dark blue water. Steering toward the channel, Angus said: “That’s where we’re going — the Deschenes Rapids.”

Twenty minutes later the sun was beating down, the breeze gone. Soon I saw a thin white line on the water — rapids. I said that if we could see the chop from this far away, they might be dangerous and we should check them before venturing on. Angus pushed to keep going, and I agreed. Before long we heard a deep rumbling, the sound of the rapids. I prickled with fear, but we pressed on. A few minutes later, we crossed a line of small red buoys that neither of us recognized as our last warning. The water turned from deep blue to brown. We paddled over a 3-foot swell (涌浪) and came down with a smack as a bigger wave sped toward us. We hit high and at an angle. As the canoe tipped over, I leaped clear, hitting the cold, rushing water, my glasses and shoes gone.

注意:

(1) 续写词数应为150左右。

(2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Paragraph 1:As if out of another dimension, I heard   Angus’s calm and confident voice, “hold on to the canoe.”

Paragraph 2:We yelled and whistled, and the boat,   piloted by Robin and firemen came over.

W: Well, I get most of my news from TV. I also read newspapers. Radio is my last choice and I seldom go online. How about you?

M: I hardly listen to the radio either, but I do love reading news on the Internet.

W: You should be careful with the information online. Much of it cannot be trusted at all. By the way, what type of news are you interested in?

M: I mainly focus on sports news. What about you?

W: I enjoy watching quite a number of news programs on TV. Many of them center on business, art and international politics.

M: Well, I have a feeling that the news reporters on TV usually say similar things based on the same information. And some of the news is very sad.

W: I know what you mean. But you have to keep up with what’s happening around the world, even though it makes you feel bad sometimes.

M: Good morning, this is Kevin Johnson. What can I do for you?

W: Hello, manager. Can’t you do something about the service in this hotel?

M: I’m sorry, madam. What’s the problem exactly?

W: My breakfast, that’s the problem. I ordered a full English breakfast from room service at least half an hour ago. I’ve telephoned them three times but my breakfast still hasn’t come.

M: I see.

W: I’ve got an important meeting at nine o’clock. And now it seems I’ll have to go there without breakfast. Really, I don’t think this is good enough.

M: I’m very sorry, madam. You ordered breakfast half an hour ago and you phoned three times since then.

W: That’s right.

M: I’m really sorry about this. You should have received the breakfast no later than ten or twenty minutes after you ordered it.

W: That’s what I thought.

M: The problem may be that they are short of people in the kitchen recently, but I will look into this myself. Full English breakfast, was it?

W: Yes, full English breakfast.

M: Very well, madam. I will bring it up to your room right away.

W: Hi, Jason.

M: Hi, Maria. You look excited. What’s up?

W: I had an amazing day.

M: Really? What happened?

W: I was shopping down Oxford Street when I saw a woman. She looked really familiar. I mean I was sure I knew her. She was bending down and looking around her for something.

M: What was she looking for?

W: She was looking for her ring. Anyway, I found it for her. And when she got up, I realized it was Susan Hill, the famous actress.

M: You mean the Susan Hill in the Good Old Days? You can’t be serious.

W: Believe it or not. Anyway, she was really grateful and she gave me a ticket to her new play. It’s worth 50 pounds.

M: Wow, that’s great.

W: I know, and she invited me to have dinner with her after the play with other actors.

M: You’re really lucky.

W: So are you. She said I can bring a friend.

M: Gosh! Thank you, Maria.

Good evening, everyone. This is the final team meeting before we travel to Costa Rica. I’d like to tell you about the three different projects that we’re running there. Before I go on though, let me tell you that we will be leaving on the 6thof April and we will be coming back on the 20th instead of the 10thof July. I hope that won’t be a problem for anyone. Now, the first project includes cleaning up the beaches in the east of the country. This is home to some rare sea birds and we’re going there to do our best to protect them. The second project is in the capital, San José. There we will be working in the national zoo, planting trees to improve the animals’ natural homes. The final project is in one of the national parks. This is in an area of rainforest which was destroyed, and now the Costa Rican government wants to bring new life to it. We will be planting trees and recording the growth habits of the plants that we find there. Okay, has anyone got any questions on any of that?
