Why Walking Is Good for You
Walking is the simplest form of exercise, and almost everyone can do it. You do not need a gym, a coach, or any special clothes. A pair of comfortable shoes is enough. Doctors often say that thirty minutes of walking a day can make a real difference to your health.
One of the best things about walking is that it is good for the heart. When you walk quickly, your heart beats faster and your blood moves better around the body. Over time, this helps to keep your heart strong. Studies show that people who walk every day are less likely to have heart problems than those who sit for most of the day.
Walking is also good for the mind. When you go outside, you breathe fresh air and look at green trees and open sky. This can help you feel calmer. Some office workers say that a short walk at lunchtime helps them work better in the afternoon. A walk with a friend is even better, because you can talk and share your news.
There is another reason to walk: it is cheap and easy to start. You do not have to pay to join a club. You can walk to the shops, to school, or just around your neighbourhood. Even ten minutes counts. Some people begin slowly and then walk a little longer each week.
Of course, walking is not the only way to be healthy. Eating well and sleeping enough are just as important. And if you have a health problem, you should ask a doctor before you start a new exercise plan.
Perhaps the most important point is this: you do not need to run a race or climb a mountain. A simple daily walk can help you stay healthy, feel happy, and enjoy the world around you.

The School Garden
Last spring, a primary school in a small town started something new. The teachers turned a corner of the playground into a garden. At first, some parents were not sure about the idea. They thought the children should spend their time on lessons, not on digging the soil.
But after a few months, the garden became one of the most popular places in the school. Every class has a small piece of land. The children plant seeds, pull out weeds, and water the young plants. They also write down what they see in a notebook, so the garden has become a science lesson as well.
The head teacher, Mrs. Li, says the garden has changed the children in ways she did not expect. "Some of them were very quiet in class," she says. "In the garden they become active and ask many questions." The garden is not only about plants. The children also learn to work together and to wait patiently for results.
Not everything has been easy. In the first month, insects ate many of the young leaves, and the children were sad. Mrs. Li used this as a lesson: farmers face the same problems, and they solve them by watching carefully and trying again.
In autumn, the children picked tomatoes, beans and carrots. Some of the vegetables were used in the school kitchen. Others were sold to parents, and the money was used to buy more seeds and tools for next year.
The school now plans to build a small greenhouse, so that the garden can continue in winter. Mrs. Li hopes that other schools will start gardens too. "Children who grow their own food," she says, "will never forget how it tastes."

| 第三部分 概括段落大意和补全句子(本大题共10题,每题1分,共10分) |
阅读下面短文,完成 16—25 题。短文后有五段(①—⑤)。
① People say that friendship is one of the best things in life. But a good friendship does not appear by chance. It is built slowly, over many days and years, and it needs care, just like a small plant. To understand how to be a good friend, we should first look at what good friends really do.
② The first thing a good friend does is listen. When you have a problem, a true friend does not hurry to give advice. He or she sits with you, looks at you, and tries to understand how you feel. Being listened to can make a heavy heart feel much lighter.
③ Honesty matters too. A good friend tells you the truth, even when the truth is not pleasant. If you are making a mistake, a real friend will say so gently but clearly. Such honesty may hurt for a moment, but it helps you grow.
④ Friends also need time. Life is busy, and it is easy to forget to call or write. But good friends make time for each other, even when their days are full. A short message or a quick cup of tea can keep a friendship alive.
⑤ Finally, no one is perfect. Sooner or later, a friend will disappoint you, and you will disappoint your friend. Good friends learn to forgive. They talk about the problem, say sorry, and then move on together.
